How to compare hotel quotes fairly: five things to check besides the price

When a client says another agent offered a lower price, the first step is to check whether the two quotes are really the same. Hotel prices can look similar or very different for reasons that have nothing to do with value.

Check the cancellation terms first. A lower price may be a non-refundable rate, while yours may allow free cancellation. The right to change plans has a real value, and the client should understand the difference.

Check the room and the meal plan. The same hotel can offer a standard room, a larger room or a room with a view at different prices, and breakfast may or may not be included. Make sure the room type, bed type and meal plan are identical in both quotes.

Check the taxes and fees. Some quotes include local taxes and service charges, while others add them later or ask the guest to pay at the hotel. Ask whether the total shown is the final amount the client will pay.

Check the dates, the number of guests and the validity of the quote. A price for two adults is not the same as a price for two adults and two children. Explain these differences calmly and in writing so that the client can choose with full information instead of only looking at the lowest number.
