Booking hotels in peak season: practical tips for travel agents
Published October 27, 2026
In peak season, the best hotels sell out first and prices rise as dates approach, so the most useful habit is to book early and to hold flexible rates where you can. Waiting for a better price usually backfires in busy periods.
Start with the dates. Check public holidays, school breaks, major events and religious seasons in the destination, because these often decide demand. Ask clients for flexible dates where possible, since moving a trip by a day or two can change the price significantly.
Compare more than one option. Look at neighbouring areas, different hotel categories and different room types. A slightly less central hotel with good transport links can save your client money without hurting the trip.
Prefer rates with a free cancellation deadline when your client's plans are not final, and keep a note of that deadline. If the price drops later, you can sometimes cancel and rebook at the lower rate before the deadline.
Keep clients informed. Tell them early that peak-season prices are changing quickly and that a quote may not stay valid for long. A client who understands this is more likely to confirm in time.
