How travel agents can win repeat clients and referrals without discounting
Published October 27, 2026
The most profitable client for a travel agency is the one who books again. It costs far less to serve a returning client than to find a new one, and happy clients often recommend you to friends and family without being asked.
Reliability is what earns repeat business. Send confirmations on time, check that details are correct and answer messages quickly. Clients rarely remember a perfect booking, but they always remember an agent who solved a problem calmly.
Stay in touch in a useful way. Send a short message after the trip to ask how it went, and note what the client liked and disliked. Next time, you can suggest options that match their taste. A message before a holiday season with a helpful idea is welcomed more than a generic promotion.
Make it easy to recommend you. After a good trip, politely ask the client whether they know anyone else who is planning to travel. Some agents add a thank-you gesture such as a small gift or a priority service for referrals, which is often more valued than a price cut.
Avoid competing only on price. Clients who choose you because you were cheapest will leave for someone cheaper. Clients who choose you because you were honest, fast and helpful are much more likely to stay.
